Atuel Canyon is located 35 km from the city of San Rafael. To get there is necessary to move the Provincial Route No. 173 to the Rio Atuel. It is part of a tourist circuit formed by the river, Valle Grande, the town’s Nihuil and dam of the same name. It is a place with many scenic attractions, offering the possibility of both high mountain sports like water and land.
Through the Canyon Atuel River runs Mendoza, who is responsible for their training due to river erosion and the erosive action of the wind. The place has many rock formations which have been named in different ways: Puff Pastry Cake, The Belt of San Martin, La Procession, El Hongo, The Owl and the submarine. There are also other natural sculptures like the Wax Museum, the armchair Rivadavia, The Lizard, Monsters, The Enchanted City, The Hanging Gardens and Monk, to name a few.
In the canyon there are two artificial lakes of great beauty, which enhance its splendor: Aisol Lake and White Lands. Then we find the hydroelectric complex Nihuil, which has three plants that provide hydroelectric power for the region. As for the Valle Grande, it has a huge emerald water mirror.
There is also a water boxing is known as Devil’s Throat, and within the water activities that can be performed are the Atuel River rafting, kayaking in rapids, doky on inflatable canoes and slippers.
