Located 85 km from the city of San Rafael Reservoir Nihuil is a lake that forms the dam of the same name. Atuel Canyon emerges, and is accessed by Provincial Route No. 144. The artificial lake is formed on the Atuel River, and was opened in 1947. It’s a good choice to visit, water sports and learn a more about its importance to the region.
The lake is full of colors when the windsurfers come with their colorful sails, or when you prefer to water ski glide over the surface. It is a good choice for the followers of these two sports practitioners. In addition, next to the reservoir it is the tourist village Nihuil, which can be visited and offers campsites for daredevils who like the great outdoors.
On the left bank of the lake is located the Club de Pescadores de San Rafael. The site has camping, procurement, cabins for one or more days in the dock, varied cuisine restaurant, swimming pool, weekend homes and all services. Every year many fishermen come to the clear waters of the dam for a quiet afternoon of fishing.
The dam has a total of 9600 hectares, making it the largest in the province of Mendoza reservoir. It is the work’s primary electrical system Nihuiles, including Nihui I (Presa Nihuil) Nihuil II (Dam Aisol) Nihuil III (Presa White Lands), and Valle Grande Dam and Central. Besides the lake, constitute attractive nearby dunes, located a few kilometers from the villa. This place has been chosen to host the 2nd stage of the 2012 Dakar Rally, offering great difficulty contestants.
