The Sosneado is a district located 142km from the city of San Rafael, 300 km from the capital city of Mendoza. It is a special area for rugged outdoor activities, ranging from camping, horseback riding, mountain biking and climbing higher. From the city of San Rafael is accessed through National Route 144, and is a circuit operable from November to March, during the warm seasons.
Within the district and along the coast of Rio Atuel is the lagoon Sosneado, a quiet, ideal for visiting family and enabled for fishing and diving. By digging a little more, you can visit the ruins of the historic Hotel Thermal, which has outdoor thermal pools. The whole tour of the district is part of a high mountain circuit, which continues with the Indian Cave, an important native culture.
The most representative part for adventurers who want to explore the high mountain sanrafaelina is what keeps the Overo Volcano. It is a dormant volcano crowned by eternal glaciers, with an overall height of 4620 meters. It is ideal for activities related to the superior climbing.
Finally, it may be interesting to visit the Laguna del Atuel, part of the district. It feeds the melting of the high peaks, and it follows the Atuel River. It is also bordered by a sulfur mine, abandoned in the seventies. The lagoon was declared Natural Reserve of San Rafael Hydro in 2012.
