The first multicolor hills appear about 33 kilometers from the city and are known as Sierra Pintada; following to the South along National Route 144, one reaches the Cuesta de los Terneros elevation which reaches a maximum height of 1,000 meters before descending towards El Sosneado. There is a “natural window” at the top from where one can appreciate the San Rafael oasis and, it is where the Franciscan Order chose to erect a monument to their founder, St. Francis of Assisi. In this wild environment there are many open air activities to be enjoyed such as camping, trekking, horse riding, biking and mountaineering.
