SAN RAFAEL AND ITS WINES
San Rafael is one of the most important regions regarding the
elaboration of fine wines due to the rigor of the climate as it
has very cold winters, very warm summers, late frosts and
frequent hail.
The first producers were obliged to use high-quality vine plants
which were later to become what gave fame to this area.
San Rafael counts with what connoisseurs call D.O.C (Controlled
Origin Denomination) and so producers cultivate and harvest
grapes of excellent quality and reliable production origin.
There is a great deal of wineries, some of them of international
renown as well as small boutique wineries all making great
quality wines.
The quiet cellars house their best wines whilst they age before
being bottled and becoming real ambassadors of the Argentine
industry. There are guided tours to the wineries and tasting of
exquisite wines on offer such as Malbec, Syrah, and Bonarda,
ciders and sparkling wines to the delight of visitors.
San Rafael is also an important producer of fresh and dried
fruits, preserves, olives and, of course, olive oils.
