TOURIST CIRCUIT: CITY OF SAN RAFAEL
IMMIGRANTS PLAZA
This piazza was built in order to honor Italian immigrants who
through great effort worked to enrich these latitudes. The first
locomotive that arrived in San Rafael in 1903 can be appreciated
here. The Railway Municipal Museum and the Artisan Market can be
found opposite the piazza and behind it respectively.
SAN RAFAEL ARCHANGEL CATHEDRAL
It is located opposite San Martin Plaza at the corner of
Belgrano and Pellegrini Streets and was built in neocolonial
style starting in 1935 and was finished in 1952. Monsignor
Ernesto Vicente de Miguel worked arduously during construction
and was the parson from 1941 u until 1985. His body rests on the
right hand side outer section of the entrance where a block
marble stone can be seen. To the right of the Cathedral there is
a tower, San Marco, which was donated by the Viñuela Family in
1952.
CTC BUILDING – COLOR TV COMPANY
This huge colonial style building was opened in 1928 and was the
property of the National Mortgage Bank. It well worth a short
visit in order to appreciate the epoch’s ornaments and the
yellow and white moldings with extraordinary plaster motives on
the walls. It is located at the corner of Comandante Salas and
Day Streets.
HIPOLITO YRIGOYEN PARK
Only ten blocks from the very core of the city, we find this
green area with a special sector destined for children with
various playgrounds, an open air sports complex with swimming
pool and a small residence for sportsmen and women. There is
also an open air Greek Theatre (“Chacho Santa Cruz”) with a
capacity for 10,000 sitting people where many artistic and
cultural shows take place.
There is a Monument to the Argentine Gaucho, the Harvest Statue
(Vendimia) and the Tango Plaza.
MARIANO MORENO PARK
This park is on the Rio Diamante Island, 7 kilometers from the
city and is a nature refuge for both local people and visitors.
It has a small artificial lake, a grotto of the Immaculate
Conception Virgin, a zoo and a camping site offering diverse
services. The National Natural History Museum is here on the
Diamante River Island too.
