Bodega Goyenechea
The winery was founded in 1868 by Basque brothers Santiago and
Narciso Goyenechea who built the winery towards 1905 and plated
the first vineyards in Villa Atuel, San Rafael. It was in 1965
when the fourth generation, by now completely Argentine steered
the company towards exclusively fine, bottled wine.
The winery developed the Aberdeen Angus brand name for the
breeders association of such cattle. They also started exports
to the United States and Paraguay, and later to other American
and European countries.
In 1993, the winery founded the first DOC (Consejo de
Denominación de Origen) Council of Argentina (San Rafael), and,
was the first Argentine winery to export a D.O.C wine, a 1993
Chardonnay. A year later, the relationship with the Aberdeen
Angus Association was terminated, and the company started the
Goyenechea brand exclusively, both in Argentina and abroad.
It becomes a Sociedad Anónima (Stock Company) in 1998 with the
arrival of the fifth generation. It is one of oldest independent
family wineries in Argentina.
