Bodega Jean Rivier
This family enterprise was started in 1956 by Swiss-French
immigrant Don Jean Rivier
in San Rafael, South of Mendoza Province. It is currently in
the hands of the second generation of viticultural growers who
use modern cultivation and wine-making techniques with the
purpose of maximizing the natural potential of their grapes.
From the very beginning they called themselves “viticultural
creators”, a profession consisting in cultivating and caring
for their own vineyards, in order to obtain first class raw
material, become familiar with the characteristics of each
variety, the climate and the local soil; finally, the
elaboration of wines and their betterment. In a word, to have
all the production factors under the control of the winery.
Jean Rivier today elaborates and sells wines made from their own
grapes and, in lesser quantities from some other growers who
adopt the quality criteria set by the company. White wines are
made from Chenin Blanc, Tocai Friulano and Torrontés varieties,
and red wines from Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Bonarda and
Merlot grapes.
