ADVENTURE TOURISM IN SAN RAFAEL
ADVENTURE
San Rafael counts with a diversity of alternatives for the
practice of outdoor activities available for everyone.
Rafting is the main attraction, but nautical activities,
including kayaking, sliders and others are not only limited to
this kind of crafts.
The Geography of Mendoza includes many lakes and they offer
other options amongst which: wind surf, water skiing and
canoeing.
For those just wishing to admire the views, there are
catamarans (special kind of craft appropriate for a quiet sail
on the lakes).
Mountain activities abound too and both beginners and experts
will find tailor-made options for their needs or wishes. Another
great option is to take a horse ride for an hour, several hours
and up to several days.
Lovers of nature can do trekking, go on a mountain bike or a
photo safari; there are also archeological tourism and
speleology activities offered by some tourist agencies.
RAFTING
Rafting means to wade rivers downwards on big rubber rafts, but,
of course one also needs appropriate equipment and expert guides
knowledgeable in navigational techniques.
San Rafael and the Atuel river Canyon in particular, count with
all these elements in order to make this practice safe and
exciting with grade 2 and 3 difficulties in a scale from 0 to 6.
The whole family will find they participate, enjoy and do so
safely.
There are several river runs: the shortest being 6 kilometers,
an intermediate one of 10 kilometers and a long one of 16
kilometers and they last a time of between 40 minutes and two
hours.
There are also some other options for the fearless: rafting
grade 4 on the Atuel river close to El Sosneado, or, three-day
all-inclusive programs, a 100 kilometer adventure in the water.
It is only a matter of taking a chance and creating your own
adventure.
KAYAKKING
Kayakking is another fun adventure San Rafael has to offer as it
is practiced on white water rivers, those forming foaming rapids
and, the main difference with rafting is that it is only “you
and the river” and not many participants, which makes it into a
very exciting experience.
It can be practiced all year round and there is even an event
organized during Easter Week which is attended by many lovers of
the sport, local and foreign, who come to enjoy the clear waters
of the Atuel River.
For beginners, there are real experts around who will teach the
basic techniques and will keep company during the first
descents.
